What is Engineering?
Engineering is using math and science to solve problems in the world. There are many different areas of engineering but each area uses problem solving techniques to design, evaluate, develop, test, modify, install, inspect and maintain a wide variety of products and systems.
BIOmedical Engineering
Biomedical engineering is the application of the principles and problem-solving techniques of engineering to biology and medicine. Biomedical engineering focuses on the advances that improve human health and health care at all levels.
Mechanical engineering
Mechanical engineering is an engineering branch that combines engineering physics and mathematic principles with materials science to design, analyze, manufacture, and maintain mechanical systems. It is one of the oldest and broadest of the engineering branches.
applied Physics
Applied physics is the application of physical theories to problem-solving. It is the use of theoretical knowledge of the properties of physical bodies with the intention of achieving a particular technological or practical goal.
Chemical engineering
Chemical engineers conceive and design processes to produce, transform and transport materials — beginning with experimentation in the laboratory followed by implementation of the technology in full-scale production.
COmputer Engineering
Computer engineering is the practice of making computers and their parts. Computer engineers are always trying to make new parts smaller and better. They also build and design software to optimize computing and enable processes.
Enviormental Engineering
Environmental engineering is a professional engineering discipline that takes from broad scientific topics, like chemistry, to create solutions that will protect and improve the health of living organisms and improve the quality of the environment.
Aerospace engineering
Aerospace engineering is the design, development, testing, and production of aircraft/spacecraft and related systems including missiles, rocket-propulsion systems, and other equipment operating beyond the earth's atmosphere.
electrical engineering
The branch of engineering that deals with the technology of electricity, especially the design and application of circuitry and equipment for power generation and distribution, machine control, and communications.
Where You Can Learn More
There are many sites out there dedicated to giving information to women interested in engineering. They provide useful information about statistics and ways to contact people that will help you. Click the More Info tap at the top of the page or in the button bellow.
2x
The Percent of Engineering PHDS That were women doubled from 1995 to 2014
This is a trend in the right direction but women are still only one third of the PhD students.
3x
three times more Male High-school students take engineering than female students
These classes are open to all students. We need to educate girls that engineering is a field for them too.
8x
eight times as many men are engineers than women
We need to work together to change this number. It is up to us.
